DIGIHEALTH Project Closing Conference at Beirut
A final conference was held at Beirut Arab University (Partner Institution) from 05/10/2022 until 07/10/2022 at its venue in Beirut in the main campus.
The main objectives of DIGIHEALTH project are:
- To promote excellence, creative and innovative digital teaching and learning approaches through advanced ICT solutions.
- To improve quality of health education in order to prepare well-qualified graduates able to adapt to changing healthcare environment, meet societal expectations and sustaining health environment in Lebanon and Syria.
On the first day, opening speeches were given by Prof. Sobhi Abou Chahine Dean of Student Affairs, Project coordinator at Beirut Arab University and Prof. Mosad Zineldin from Linnaeus University, the coordinator of DIGIHEALTH project.
Professors from Genoa University and from Italy lectured on that day. The conference activities started by an introduction on assessment forms by Prof Diana Spulber, followed by another lecture by Prof. Carlo Pesce entitled: Assessment activities through the use of tools. Finally, Prof. Giacomo Borgonovo presented another lecture entitled: Medical Simulation: techniques and assessment.
On the second day of the conference, the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Lebanese University inaugurates the National Digihealth Teaching and Learning Center under the patronage of the President of the Lebanese University, Professor Bassam Badran.
A steering committee meeting with Quality Expert was held at the venue of LU.
During the third day of the conference, Prof. Mosad Zineldin, the project coordinator at LNU presented an overview of this project and other two related projects:
- Knowledge Triangle, Reinforcing of Education - Research E-Health & Medical Links ICU-RER
- Interprofessional student-run primary CARE clinics: A University-Enterprise Knowledge Triangle Cooperation Approach (ICARE)
The president of Beirut Arab University, Prof. Amr Galal El Adawi welcomed the participants, then presented the objectives of BAU and the Erasmus + Project, stating that BAU relevant strategic objectives are in alignment with the objective of this project in:
1- Supporting Transformation to a Digital Environment;
2- Diversifying and Updating Methods of Teaching, Learning, and Assessment;
3- Adopting a Flexible Mixed Learning Model;
4- Enhancing participation in international projects.
The Coordinator of the National Erasmus+ Office Lebanon, Dr. Aref Alsoufi, talked about Erasmus+ program activities in Lebanon, the difficulties facing the implementation of projects and the support of the office in this regard. He also highlighted the role of Beirut Arab University in supporting Erasmus+ projects.
Later on, the General Director of Higher Education Dr. Mazen Al-Khatib stated that he supports the activities done by the National Erasmus + Office in line with the objectives of the project and the strategy of higher education in Lebanon, especially in terms of:
- Adopting innovative and effective teaching methods
- Providing the necessary training for the teaching staff
- Preparing quality standards for blended and distance education and setting their exams
- Promote participation in relevant international projects
Dr. Khatib encouraged the partner universities to sustain and disseminate the results of this project in all their faculties.
This conference was interactive, with the presence of many universities: Beirut Arab University (BAU), Modern University for Business and Science (MUBS), Lebanese University (LU), Lebanese International University (LIU), Damascus University (DU) and Arab International University (AIU). Discussions were held on Project team, developed modules, outcomes, impact, achievements and experience.
